I’ve spent a lot of time over the past few months making a video game about my girlfriend. Up until then, the idea of making a game was daunting. I’ve been writing code for ages and eons, but I couldn’t even wrap my head around even the most basic concepts. How do pause screens work?!

To my surprise, it’s a lot easier than I thought! I don’t know if I’ll ever call myself an artist, but I do have a background in animation and audio, and combining all of these aspects to develop something has been some of the most fun I’ve ever had in working on a project. I don’t plan on publishing this game for the public, but I will at least show off some pieces of it and try to write about it. This has mostly served as an experimental playground for me to learn all this stuff.

I’ve been using Aseprite to make all of the (bad) art assets and animations, and Gamemaker Studio 2 to put it all together. I pulled and edited a lot of the sound effects from Freesound.org and BFXR, but there are a few sets that I’ve created completely from scratch that I’ll probably save for another entry. All of the music is original as well, however hastily thrown in at this point.
